Bonn Om Touk
27/11/2012 - 29/11/2012
Place: Phnom Penh
“Bonn Om Touk” (Water and Moon Festival) is the biggest festival in Cambodia. Each year under the full moon of the Buddist Calendar month of Kadeuk, more than 400 hundred boats and their crews gather to race their gaily painted boats in the hope of becoming the nations' water festival champions. Up to a million spectators flock to the capital to support their local boat crew and to celebrate the reversal of the flow of the Bassac River. By day the races draw the crowds, and the surrounding area is swamped with food stalls - it’s a food lover’s dream. And by night, join in the celebrations as a carnival of illuminated floats passes downstream under a sky brighten by fireworks. The festival finishes with candles floating down the river into the darkness.
